Arcadia Ubud: Riverside Restaurant

Arcadia is a sit-down restaurant on the river next to Campuhan Bridge, on the western edge of Ubud, and it suits a date night or a long lunch more than a quick bite. We ate here. The room is stone, carved wood and brass, looking down into the valley.

The menu is modern international with Asian touches. At dinner, starters run from charcoal-battered cauliflower to prawn dumplings with XO cream, and mains go from mushroom risotto and 12-day dry-aged duck up to a 750g rib-eye on the bone. Lunch is simpler: a wagyu burger, fish and chips, nasi goreng. There's also a Feed Me tasting menu, a romantic three-course set for two and a kids' menu. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and pork dishes are marked.

The catch is the price. Dinner mains on the current menu are mostly IDR 155,000 to 285,000, steaks go well past that, and 16.1% tax and service goes on top. Tables are also capped at two hours. On Sundays at 7pm there's live music from Dee's Musicbox quartet.

The Lair, a cocktail bar that takes bookings on the same number, sits under the same bridge if you want a drink after.
