About Sea la Vie
Sea La Vie Resort sits right on the western coast of Nusa Penida, overlooking Toya Pakeh harbor and giving you front-row seats to Mount Agung across the water in Bali. This 4-star boutique resort is way different from your typical Bali beach hotel - it's perched on dramatic cliffs with 22 rooms spread across bungalows and suites, each with private balconies facing the ocean. The property feels more like a luxury hideaway than a regular resort, especially with that famous infinity pool that literally seems to drop into the ocean.
You're about 15-20 minutes by scooter or car from the main Toya Pakeh harbor, which makes it super convenient but still peaceful. The resort sits at sea level on the cliff edge, so temperatures stay comfortable around 26-28°C (79-82°F) during the day with ocean breezes keeping things cool. Unlike the more crowded eastern areas around Diamond Beach, this western location gives you stunning sunset views and way fewer tourists crowding your photos. The whole vibe here is upscale but relaxed - think boutique resort vibes with that authentic Nusa Penida adventure spirit.
Our experience
Getting There: Fast boats from Sanur cost 150,000-200,000 IDR ($10-13 USD) one way, taking about 45 minutes. Book in advance during peak season. The resort offers arranged pickup from Toya Pakeh harbor - definitely take this option since the roads can be tricky.
Road Conditions: The route to reach the location is not well maintained with narrow and broken patches. If you're driving yourself, go slow and be extra careful on a scooter. The resort is worth the bumpy ride, but first-timers should consider the hotel transfer.
Scooter Rentals: Expect to pay 80,000-100,000 IDR ($4-5 USD) per day for a standard 125cc scooter. They don't have rental bikes at the resort but can give you nearby contacts.
Stairs Warning: There are lots of steps to climb between rooms and restaurant areas, so this place isn't great for people with mobility issues or heavy luggage.
Communication: All communication is through WhatsApp - no landline phones in rooms. Make sure you have good data or WiFi.
Cash: Bring enough rupiah - card payments aren't guaranteed everywhere on the island, and ATMs can be unreliable.

Frequently asked questions
Sea la Vie stands out as the only luxury boutique resort on Nusa Penida's western coast, offering exclusive sunset views that you can't get from hotels on the eastern side. Unlike crowded beach hotels, this cliff-top property has just 19 rooms, giving you a more intimate experience with private balconies facing Mount Agung. The famous infinity pool literally appears to flow into the ocean, creating those Instagram-worthy shots without the typical tourist crowds. Plus, you're perfectly positioned - close enough to Toya Pakeh harbor for easy island hopping but far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet.
