About Wakagangga

Located in the tranquil Tabanan regency on Bali's southwest coast, WakaGangga Boutique Resort sits along the pristine Yeh Gangga Beach. This intimate oceanfront retreat has just 21 villas, most with private swimming pools, set among gently sloping rice terraces and framed by the island's striking black volcanic sand beach.

In a village forgotten by time, WakaGangga captures all that is beautiful, natural and simply spectacular about Bali. The resort's authentic Balinese architecture uses traditional materials including bamboo, indigenous wood, and natural stone, with distinctive cone-shaped alang-alang grass roofing that blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

Each villa shows the resort's signature indoor-outdoor design philosophy, allowing cooling ocean breezes to flow freely while providing breathtaking views of the surrounding emerald rice fields and majestic volcanic mountains. The contemporary rustic-chic interiors feature rich earth tones, local ikat textiles, and handcrafted tribal artifacts that celebrate the island's cultural heritage.

Guests can experience authentic Balinese life through guided rice field walks, traditional canang (temple offering) making workshops, and kite crafting sessions. The nearby sacred Tanah Lot temple, one of Bali's most revered spiritual sites, sits just minutes away, while the UNESCO World Heritage Jatiluwih rice terraces provide impressive hiking opportunities.

Adventure seekers can explore the coastline on horseback along the seemingly endless black sand beach, take ATV tours through the lush countryside, or cycle through traditional villages to visit the ancient Kerambitan Palace. The resort's WakaLand Cruise gives intimate 4WD expeditions through Bali's most fertile regions, with encounters with local villagers and rainforest dining experiences.

The heart of the resort centers around the dramatic black sand beach and the beautiful main swimming pool, where guests can watch impressive sunsets painting the Indian Ocean in brilliant hues. The Waka Bar & Restaurant, perched with panoramic ocean views, serves an exceptional blend of Indonesian, Asian, and Western cuisine, while the intimate Waka Spa provides rejuvenating treatments using traditional Balinese healing techniques.

Whether seeking cultural immersion, adventurous exploration, or peaceful seclusion, WakaGangga Boutique Resort gives an unforgettable gateway to Bali's unspoiled natural beauty and timeless traditions.

Our personal review

Our experience

From the moment we arrived at WakaGangga, we were struck by the resort's extraordinary setting where volcanic black sand meets the endless blue of the Indian Ocean. The gentle sound of waves against the dramatic shoreline created a mesmerizing natural symphony that went with our entire stay.

Waking up in our private pool villa to views of emerald rice terraces stretching toward distant volcanic peaks felt like stepping into a living postcard. We were particularly charmed by our early morning horseback ride along the pristine black sand beach, where we had the coastline almost entirely to ourselves as the sun painted the sky in brilliant oranges and pinks.

The best part of our stay was the afternoon we spent by our private pool, watching local farmers tend to the surrounding rice fields while occasionally glimpsing traditional ceremonies at nearby village temples. The seamless blend of luxury and authentic village life made us feel like privileged observers of Bali's timeless rhythms.

The staff's genuine warmth and intimate knowledge of local customs changed our stay from a simple vacation into a cultural trip. When they arranged for us to take part in a traditional canang-making workshop, we gained deep insights into Balinese spiritual practices that many visitors never see.

Our sunset dinner at the Waka Bar & Restaurant, with its panoramic ocean views and the sound of waves below, created magical moments that will forever define our vision of tropical paradise. The resort's ability to give complete privacy while maintaining connection to authentic Balinese village life exceeded all our expectations.

As each day ended with impressive sunsets over the Indian Ocean, we couldn't help but feel we had found Bali's best-kept secret at WakaGangga.

Worth knowing

For the most magical WakaGangga experience, wake up before dawn at least once during your stay and arrange for horseback riding on the beach at sunrise. The 30-minute ride along the black sand coastline offers breathtaking views as the first light illuminates the volcanic landscape, and you'll have the pristine beach almost entirely to yourself. Book this through the resort the evening before, as local stables fill up quickly.

After your beach ride, treat yourself to the "Morning Ritual" spa treatment at Waka Spa, which incorporates locally harvested volcanic sand and traditional Balinese healing herbs. Request the ocean-facing treatment room for the most serene experience, where the sound of waves enhances your relaxation.

Don't miss the complimentary daily shuttle service to Tanah Lot temple for sunset viewing – it's one of Bali's most sacred and photographically stunning locations, just 10 minutes from the resort. Time your visit for late afternoon to capture both the temple's dramatic silhouette and the spectacular Indian Ocean sunset that follows.
