The mostly residential district between Seminyak, Canggu and Denpasar, which officially takes in more of Petitenget than most maps admit.
About Kerobokan
Kerobokan is the mostly residential district between Seminyak, Canggu and Denpasar. It suits people who want a villa or a longer stay close to the south's restaurants and beaches without living on top of them. It's in North Kuta district, Badung regency, roughly 10 to 15 km from the airport.
The name covers more than most visitors think. There are three Kerobokan villages: Kerobokan itself, Kerobokan Kaja to the north and Kerobokan Kelod to the south. Kerobokan Kelod takes in Petitenget, Oberoi, Umalas and Batu Belig, so plenty of places sold as "Seminyak" are officially Kerobokan. Pro Padel Bali Seminyak, for one, is on Jalan Raya Kerobokan.
Away from the coast it's homes, villas, schools and rice fields in between. The French international school is here, and so is Kerobokan Prison, which opened in 1979.
The downside is getting anywhere at rush hour. The main Kerobokan junction is one of the big bottlenecks of the south, and in the evening rush it can add 20 to 30 minutes to a trip across town. Even the back roads, like Jalan Batu Belig, clog up now.
Highlights of Kerobokan
- Batu Belig Beach. A quieter stretch of wide sand between Petitenget and Canggu, with a few beach bars for sunset.
- Pura Petitenget. The sea temple most people file under Seminyak is in Kerobokan Kelod, beside Petitenget Beach.
- The night market. Local food and stalls near the main intersection by Lio Square.
- Padel. Jungle Padel Kerobokan has coaching, a pro shop and published court prices. Pro Padel Bali Seminyak has four roofed doubles courts.
Travel tips for Kerobokan
- Check which Kerobokan. Kerobokan Kelod is the only one of the three that reaches the sea, so if you want to walk to the beach, that's the one to look for on the address.
- Stay off the junction from 4pm to 8pm. That's when the Kerobokan junction backs up worst.
- Plan on a scooter or ride-hailing. There's next to no public transport, and you won't walk to the beach from most of the inland villas.
- Allow for the airport drive. You go through the same Sunset Road junctions as Seminyak, where the drive takes 45 to 90 minutes.
Things to do in Kerobokan
Sunset at Batu Belig
It's quieter than the beaches to the south. The sand is wide, and there are bars along it for a drink as the sun goes down.
Eat at the night market
The night market near Lio Square, at the main intersection, sells local food.
Head for Ubud
Dalung, just north of Kerobokan, is the usual way across to Ubud from this side of the island. Leave before the afternoon rush.

Best time to visit Kerobokan
April to October is the dry season. From roughly October to April the west monsoon brings the rain, heaviest from December to March, and in those months rubbish washes up on the beaches along this coast.
